ZANU PF Women’s League Please Fight for the Dignity of Women In Politics

Esteemed members of the ZANU-PF Women’s League, we address you today with a deep sense of respect for the critical role you play as both political leaders and moral guardians within the ruling party and the nation. Your league is a crucial pillar, established to advance the status of women and ensure their full participation in the revolutionary and nation-building agenda, grounded in dignity and respect.
However, we are writing to express profound concern regarding a disturbing trend that threatens to undermine these very principles: the increasing sexualization and objectification of women who participate in political activities. This behavior is antithetical to the stated values of the revolution and the liberation ethos, which sought to uplift women from all forms of oppression and indignity.
A recent, highly publicised instance that exemplifies this deterioration of standards is the circulation of material related to the so-called “Top Soup for ED” campaign. Such incidents exploit the image of women, particularly young and aspiring female cadres, reducing their political involvement to sensationalised and inappropriate attention. This environment creates barriers to genuine participation, discourages talented young women from entering politics, and fundamentally damages the moral fabric that the party seeks to uphold.
As the Women’s League, many of you are mothers, elders, and leaders entrusted with protecting the integrity and future of the party’s engagement with women. We appeal to you to defend the morality of the revolution and the morality of the party by taking decisive and public action. It is your duty to send an unambiguous message that the sexualization of political engagement will not be tolerated within ZANU-PF.
We urge the ZANU-PF Women’s League to utilize its considerable influence to identify and reign in on those individuals—regardless of their position—who are responsible for promoting or condoning the sexualization of women in the political arena. We ask that you champion a political culture where women are judged solely on their capacity, ideas, and commitment, rather than their appearance or inappropriate commentary.
Trolls on social media have attacked persons like Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Tatenda Mavetera labelling them and accusing them of using their womanhood to get ahead in politics or other such derogatory terms , others have body shamed people like Mai Welly the women’s league has kept quiet on such fundamental issues. Muripi nhai ana Amai to protect the dignity of the girl child in politics?
Your timely intervention is necessary to ensure that ZANU-PF remains a beacon of moral rectitude and gender respect, providing a safe and dignified platform for all women to contribute to national development.
